2009 Scream Awards/Fall TV Season

Voting for the 2009 Scream Awards started recently. For those of you not familiar with the Scream Awards they're kind of like the Oscars for Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Comic Books. Of course they're not quite as important as the Oscars but at least Spike awards things I actually enjoy. I'm kind of surprised the Supernatural was completely ignored though. IMHO it should have been included in Best TV Show and Best Ensemble, hell Jim Beaver should have been included for Supporting Actor as well. Bobby is awesome. I also think they overlooked a ton of amazing comic artists but at least they didn't include Greg Land right? Anywho, one inclusion that did make me extremely happy was Eden Lake in the category for Best Foreign Film. I won't go into how much I love this movie again you can scroll down for that. ;-p

Just a quick bit on the upcoming Fall TV Season. I really wish I could smack the CW and Fox upside their heads for scheduling Supernatural and Fringe at the same freaking time!! Didn't it occur to them that maybe these shows share a lot of the same fan base? Not everyone can afford DVRs so someones ratings are going to take a hit cause of their poor planning. I adore both shows and have yet to decide which I'm going to watch on TV and which gets regulated to reruns. Probably Fringe but since I have no intention of watching Vampire Diaries it would certainly be easier to just keep it on Fox for the evening since Fringe follows Bones another of my favorite shows. Looks like Smallville has been demoted to Fridays which isn't that surprising really. I still laugh everytime I read about it getting a spin-off. Maybe they should focus on making Smallville consistently good before they do that. Like maybe bringing back Lex? Pretty pretty please.

2001 Maniacs

Mega short post cause beer and blogging is bad.
2001 Maniacs. I love this movie in all it's cheesy goodness. It's right up there with Slither for me. Anything involving Nathan Fillion and James Gunn makes me a very happy girl. Anyways, just found out there was a comic for it. It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.

I'm a big nerd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been playing a ton of games lately cause my life if just sooo full of excitement lately. :-p Restarted City of Heroes/Villains again which is fun as usual but I spend more time creating characters than I do playing them. I always seems to have a problem with alts in any game I play. Also started playing Free Realms, which for being a game geared to kids is pretty damn entertaining. Mini games and pirates puppies are fun! Can't remember how exactly I came across Champions Online but I remember reading about it ages & ages ago. It looks pretty damn cool, as similar to CoX as it may be. Applied to the beta so cross your fingers for me please!!

You are pure evil, and hate personified. You don't care anything about your fellow man, and are guided only by your desire to rule over your inferiors, i.e. everybody but you. 'Mercy,' you ask, prior to grinding an enemy beneath your mighty heel, 'What is mercy?'

Take the quiz!

WTF DC?!?!

Just like tons of other people the currently fucked up economy has had a negative effect on my financial situation. I don't have the excess money to spend on non-essentials like I used to so it pisses me off even more when that money gets wasted. I've seriously cut back on my pull list & I'm irritated enough to start cutting back even more now.
I don't like being forced to pay for comics I don't want. With DC putting that stupid Power Girl story into every comic I picked up is really freaking annoying! Why not use the space to extend the story of the comic I actually wanted to read? If I cared about Power Girl & her mammoth chesticles I'd read JSA but I don't. Nothing annoys me more than to be excited about the length of a comic I spent my dwindling funds on only to find out that half the book is an Advertisement!?!?!?! Is this DCs version of not rasing their prices?
Oh yeah, picked up the new Flash book & thought it was great (other than the infomercial). Only thing that is still bugging me is Barry Allen's magic shirt. While he is in the Flash mueseum with Hal Jordan his shirt changes from white to red. Honestly, if the pages hadn't been facing each other I probably wouldn't have noticed. I'm just being irritable I guess.

For the first time in a long time I loved an X-Men comic. Uncanny X-Men #508 made me a very very happy girl. Next issue has Psylocke on the cover & I am so looking forward to it that it's a little sad.

Millar + McNiven = Pure Awesomeness

I read too many comic books, waaayyyyy to many, I'm actually looking to weed a few out. Here's a brief list of my monthly books:
  • X-Factor
  • Green Lantern
  • Green Lantern Corps
  • Runaways
  • Avengers Initiative
  • New Avengers
  • Mighty Avengers
  • X-Men Legacy
  • Young X-Men
  • New Warriors
  • Deadpool
  • Teen Titans
  • JLA
  • Terror Titans
  • Ultimate X-Men
  • Astonishing X-Men
  • Fables
  • Jack of Fables
  • Titans
  • Uncanny X-Men
  • Star Wars Legacy
  • Supernatural (Whenever it's out.)
  • Dresden Files
  • Kick Ass
  • X-Men - Kingbreaker (Finally some acknowledgement of Polaris & Havok abandoned in space.)
  • Young Avengers
  • Spider-Woman
  • Dark Avengers
There's also several crossovers (for lack of a better word) that the wonderful guys at the comic store hold all related for me.

  • Final Crisis
  • War of Kings
  • Dark Reign
As you can see there is way too damn many books so I'm trying to cut them back to a more reasonable amount. I did away with New Exiles months ago, Umbrella Academy was just removed from the list this week but I'm still looking to remove a couple more. New Warriors I'm looking at you. Anywhoo my plans to remove more books was evilly foiled when I attended the last comic chat and Mark Millar the blame rests solely on your shoulders.

I kept hearing how great the Old Man Logan run was, even read the first issue and liked it but didn't want to add another comic to my pull. The owner of the store was reading the most recent issue and after seeing the expressions on his face I was sold. Picture a 5 yr old getting that pony that she's asking for, only this was a grown man who was just reading a comic. My normal steely resolve weakened I picked up that issue and the 2 issues before it. Read it first thing when I got home and OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Spoilers Ahead*

Amazing comic!!!! I've been loving the the Green Lantern but Old Man blew it out of the water. The whole time I'm reading I'm trying to imagine what could be so horrible that it'd cause Wolverine to refuse to fight again. Damn Mark!! You totally topped all the horrible scenarios I had running though my head. Maybe I'm just being a girl but I teared up a little. Seriously. I still can't get the picture Wolverine holding the dead Jubilee and the horrorific corpses of the other X-Men out of my head. I can't think of a more horrible thing to do to a person, it's devastating. I know that it's going to one of the comic moments that stick in my mind forever. Kind of like when Colossus injected himself with the Legacy Virus when Illyana died. Amazing. Even more amazing is that they (Mark Millar & Steve McNiven) were able to top it.
Can you say Venom T-Rex? I knew you could.

I cannot wait til the next issue. Well done sir, well done.
